Debian 10 ("Buster")

24 July 2019

We're happy to announce that all our servers are now running the latest Debian 10 ("Buster") which includes upgrades for Apache, PHP and PostgreSQL.

The upgrades went relatively smoothly with no more than a couple of minutes downtime in each case.

We have been running Debian now since the 'Spud' release 18 years ago and it continues to meet our security and other needs.

On the security level, this release sees a migration from IPtables to the new nftables framework which powers our static and dynamic firewalls.

Other changes to PHP and related packages have seen some old functions deprecated which can affect older website. If you see anything out of place, please let us know.
